Bugging Out: Where To Plan Your Survival Retreat In A Forced Evacuation

Jeff Anderson

With everyone “sheltering in place” during the pandemic, it can be tempting to forget that sometimes, you have no choice BUT to leave your home.

Now is a great time to plan WHERE you would go if your home became too dangerous to stay in… because, over and over again, we’ve told you something you HAVE to understand about bugging out for survival.

It’s not enough just to flee!

In fact, I’ve talked before about the very real events that can plunge us into a serious social chaos situation, which could prompt you to bug out.

(You know, like a global pandemic, hint, hint?)

If one of those events occurs, you need to get gone… but you have to have somewhere to go TO.

Just leaving, just fleeing without a destination in mind, won’t work…. but how do you choose where to go?

You need to consider…

Bugging Out: Where To Plan Your Survival Retreat In A Forced Evacuation

Bugout Survival Retreat Evacuation Planning

Leaving without a destination in mind turns you into a refugee, not a survivor.

This means you’ll have planned a survival retreat ahead of time.

When considering where to locate that survival retreat, though, there are a bunch of things you need to think about.

Some of them are “counter-intuitive.”

For example…

Is The Travel Distance Feasible?

First of all, you have to be able to get to that retreat location.

Who knows what threats are going to be there along the way, no matter what route you take?

  • There could be poor resources in certain areas.
  • There could be civil unrest in certain areas.
  • If the distance is too long, you won’t be able to reach your retreat.

You really want to start with looking at a 75 to 150 mile radius from where you currently live.

So if you have to leave your home, you’re looking at worst case scenario a quarter to a half a tank of fuel, because you don’t know what you’re going to have in your vehicle.

Having NO Civilization May Not Be An Option

When you’re looking at that location, you want to look at what resources you have nearby to be able to sustain yourself.

That means you want to look at a topographical map.

  • It will show you where maybe state parks are.
  • In state parks there could be more game there.
  • There’s usually fishing there.

You are looking for something that is out of the way that people are not going to think to travel to.

  • But does it have water available?
  • Is there going to be game there that you might be able to hunt? Are there fishing locations?
  • Or is there even a place, if it’s a longer term stay, where you might be able to garden?
  • How is the soil there?

These are all things you have to think about for long-term survival.

You Need SOME Resources Nearby!

You obviously don’t want to be near a major population if you can avoid it, right?

You want to try and stay away from any major urban population because people are going to eventually start to branch out from those urban populations.

Then you have a bunch of clueless, desperate, panicked people out there that could take your stuff, stumble across you, or whatever.

So you want to be as far away from major population as possible – at least one full gas tank away from a major urban area.

You DO want some resources nearby, though, like a hospital or urgent care, a hardware store for supplies, and even something as basic as cell phone and even Internet service.

You might be able to use cash or even bartering, whatever it might be, to be able to go and get resources.

You will also need to resupply food from this area, so you do want to be near some sort of a smaller population.

Small town residents are used to being more self-sufficient, and that may play into your thinking as well.

The point is, there are a lot of factors to consider… and you can’t afford to make these decisions on the fly.

Do your planning NOW while you have the opportunity.

When an emergency hits, it will be too late.

What’s YOUR Survival Plan? Where Will YOU Bug Out To?

SHTF / WROL Survival Evacuation Tips: The “Domino Effect” Proven In CA

Mary Lindsey through that she and her husband, Charles, were “prepared“…

Even though their home was far enough away from the raging wildfires scorching the northern California woods, they were no strangers to these threats and had taken all the necessary precautions “just in case“.

The power company had given them warning that their power was being shut down as a precaution, so they had flashlights at-the-ready and there would be more than enough time to “get out of Dodge” if the fires even hinted that they were headed their way.

Mary and Charles went to sleep around 11:00pm with the feint glow of the fires far off in the distance and all seemed quiet.

But all that changed at 2:30am when Mary and her family – in fact their entire neighborhood and the police – learned the critical life-or-death lesson of…

The Deadly Disaster “Domino Effect”

Survival Tips – California Wildfires – SHTF – WROL

It really wasn’t their fault…

Like everyone else in their neighborhood, Mary and Charles followed the direction of their local officials and, while there was no immediate danger to them and their home, they were ready to leave in an instant if an evacuation order was given.

In fact, they had prepared well in advance with the county’s reverse-911 alert system… were on the emergency email subscriber list… and had neighbors who looked out for each other with a phone notification system.

There was just one thing missing…

… POWER!

You see, the fire DID make a turn for the worse that evening – and officials DID issue a “Mandatory Evacuation Order” for all residents to IMMEDIATELY evacuate the area before they were trapped by the blaze.

But since the electricity had been turned off… the ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD was clueless as they lay sleeping in their beds when the order was given.

No phone service to wake them up…
No emergency call over the television or radio…
No sirens going off…

“Clueless”!

It wasn’t until Mary – maybe woken by the sound of the helicopters overhead – scuffled to the window with her flashlight and saw that her entire street was engulfed in thick smoke, that she knew something was wrong.

It even surprised a local police officer cruising by who, while making a final pass through what he “thought” was a vacated neighborhood, looked up and saw Mary’s flashlight in the window and asked her why she hadn’t left yet.

What he hadn’t realized is that NO ONE in her area even knew of the order being given, due to the failure of their electric-dependent alert system.

And they weren’t the only ones…

In another area, Janice Bell – a single woman with multiple sclerosis – was trying to evacuate her home in the pre-dawn darkness, only to find that her car was trapped inside her garage because the electric door opener didn’t have power.

For 2 hours, she tried getting help until she was finally able to flag down a neighbor who helped her open her garage door so she could flee the area before the flames engulfed her – trapped with no way to leave.

These Are The “Dominos” That Literally
KILL Families In Their Sleep…

California Wildfires

Look, any ONE of the threats in a disaster have the potential to take lives, right?

Loss of power… empty gas pumps… jammed highways… overrun hospitals… ALL are “survival factors” you MUST be prepared for – and the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that over and over again in the last two months.

When you lose multiple conveniences at the same time, they knock each other down like dominoes – each one causing the next one, or making it worse than it would be by itself.

Threats like these can happen to you and your family, too – because if it’s not a wildfire, it could be a hurricane.

If it’s not a hurricane, it could be a massive blackout.

If not’s a blackout, it could be a flood, riots and protests “gone wild”, or even an earthquake.

I know, because it happened to ME

It was only a few years ago that I went through a very similar ordeal as the stories I’ve told when a massive “wall of water” dragged 75 homes into the river that runs through my tiny Texas town in the wee morning hours around 2:00am.

Many of my friends barely escaped with their lives.

Worse, a dozen of my fellow townsfolk died in that horrific disaster.

They didn’t need to.

I learned some VERY valuable lessons from that fateful night and – with my background in preparedness (mixed with lessons I’d learned in the military) – I’ve made it my personal mission to make sure that NO FAMILY ever suffer the same fate as my friends or those families that drowned as the waters dragged them into the ambush of water that drove through our town.

I’m hoping I can share those lessons with you because I PROMISE YOU that any ONE of the lessons could literally be the difference between life or death for you and those you love.

Some of those lessons are contained in my survival gear secrets report, which I hope you’ll download so you can start preparing.

For your sake. For your family’s sake. I really hope you will.

Sheltering In Place (Quarantine/Lockdown): 3 Tips For Fortifying Your Property!

Jeff Anderson

When city planners are constructing communities, the last thing they’re thinking of is its defense against enemy combatants.

In fact, if anything, the way that normal neighborhoods are set up, most homes would make you a sitting duck if a battle broke out on your block.

As with any castle, the better fortified your fortress is as you’re staring at the marauders outside the gates, the better your chance of survival.

So how would you go about fortifying your home – especially with all of us worrying about looters and home invaders during the COVID-19 quarantines and lockdowns?

A while back I spoke with my survival expert Pat Henry about the idea of fortifying a home, and here is a summary of what he had to say to me about it.

3 Tips For Fortifying Your Property!

Survive In Place: 3 Tips For Fortifying Your home

Pat Henry
Pat Henry

You yourself may not have given any thought to how to defend your home and your community when it suddenly becomes a war zone, but as we’ve recently seen during times of widespread civil unrest, rioting and looting, any emergency that plunges your town into a state of social chaos could bring violence literally right to your door and onto your streets.

When the police are overwhelmed and 911 operators give up on even trying to answer the phone, it’s left to you, and hopefully a well-trained survival team, to defend your home.

Let’s say you’re lucky enough to be on a dead-end street.

You could use cars to stop people from coming down your street.

But you’re not going to be able to close off the entire perimeter of your front yard.

There’s just too much space there.

Most of us don’t live on dead ends, either.

But no matter how open your property is, there are choke points you can take advantage of.

That brings us to our first tip…

1. Creating And Exploiting Choke Points

Look for choke points that can minimize the space and reduce someone’s ability to get through.

You can also make those choke points.

  • You can drop a tree, for example.
  • Take advantage of fences in the area, too.
  • Anything that you can dump dirt, sand, or gavel into, like a trashcan, can form a barrier that makes it harder for an enemy to get through and may provide cover.

In a serious crisis, you could use appliances, like washing machines, freezers, and so on, filled with dirt.

That kind of mass will stop a vehicle.

It won’t stop a tank, but it will stop most passenger cards on the road… and it will slow down just about anyone.

2. Mind Your Windows And Doors

Your home is, obviously, your last line of defense.

We see it in zombie movies and things like that, with arms coming through the windows.

You’ve got to plan ahead of time to seal off your windows and doors from a serious invasion.

Sure, someone could take a sledgehammer and start beating in the walls, but if they’re doing that, you’re not going to stop them anyway.

You can purchase a film from 3M that you can apply to your windows to turn them, effectively, into a sheet of plastic like safety glass.

They’ll take much more abuse before they give in, although they’re not bulletproof.

  • Plywood can also be fit over your windows, although it cuts your visibility and makes your fortifications more obvious.
  • Boards with nails run through them can be put under your windows to provide a deterrent.
  • The doors themselves can be reinforced, or you could replace the entire door with a steel unit.

All of these tactics are intended to buy you time.

They’re to give you more room to sneak around and get out to escape.

3. Sandbags

One thing that you could lay in a supply off, as long as you’ve got a yard to fill them from, is sandbags.

People usually have these on hand for flooding, but they can be used to make a great barricade if you have time to fill them.

It’s time-consuming to build a wall of sandbags, but creating a mound you can duck behind for cover is another otion.

You don’t even need to have a ton of dirt available.

Obviously, you’d be filling these with dirt, not sand, in most cases.

These work because a dirt mound is a great way to absorb the energy of bullets.

If you have enough dirt, you can make some fairly serious earthworks defenses.

Even just a little can help provide needed cover.

So what are YOU doing to prepare your home for an invasion like this?

The time to start fortifying is NOW, more than ever before.

Bugout Tip (From Gov’t) For WROL And SHTF Disasters: ARM YOURSELF!

Bugout Tip (From Gov't) For WROL And SHTF Disasters: ARM YOURSELF!

“You can’t eat bullets.”

“All those guns won’t save you from a fire or an earthquake.”

“Why are you so paranoid?”

These are all things some people like to say to armed citizens when it comes to survival in a natural disaster or other emergency (like the current COVID-19 pandemic).

Now, look, I get the point these folks are trying to make.

No, weapons should not be your ONLY priority in an emergency.

But you also don’t DARE ignore them, because now…

Even The Government Says To Arm Yourself In A Disaster!

Bugout Tip (From Gov't) For WROL And SHTF Disasters: ARM YOURSELF!
Bugout Tip (From Gov’t) For WROL And SHTF Disasters: ARM YOURSELF!

Your government isn’t exactly known for being on the “cutting edge” of preparing for a disaster:

They left a fleet of buses to be buried in flood water in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.

They left thousands of bottles of water to sit, unused, during disaster recovery efforts in Puerto Rico

And they complained that it simply didn’t have the resources to help people (seriously – FEMA. bureaucrats said this after Hurricane Maria)!

But now, the same people who famously confiscated guns from law-abiding citizens after Hurricane Katrina have changed their tune.

Specifically, more and more state governments are recognizing the REAL danger in a natural disaster.

What is that danger?

It’s other people.

Lawmakers in Texas, last year, approved a new bill that lets legal gun owners carry handguns in public for up to a week after a natural disaster.

It passed in a very close vote, and the lawmakers argued about it a LOT before passing it.

An article in the The New Republic said…

According to a summary, bill supporters don’t want to be “forced to leave handguns behind in vehicles or homes, where they could be at risk from looters.” [emphasis added]

The bill is a step in the right direction, but what it DOESN’T include is just as important:

The bill doesn’t require relief shelters to let in people who are armed.

In other words, if you’re an armed citizen and you intend to stay armed in a natural disaster…

…You’re on your own!

What Laws Like This Mean For Your Survival

If more and more states – the same people who haven’t exactly been quick to look out for you in the past – are recognizing the danger of natural disasters…

…you’re already behind the curve if you aren’t getting ready for this.

(Especially given all the attacks on gun sales and your gun rights that have happened since the pandemic started.)

Whether it’s a home-leveling hurricane, a raging forest fire, an earthquake, a flood… it ISN’T the disaster itself that your government is now worrying about.

It’s what comes AFTER the disaster, when innocent victims are preyed on by looters and other “human threats.”

Understanding the danger of looters and an increase in crime (which is exactly what happened after Hurricane Katrina turned New Orleans into a crime-ridden war zone) is the ONLY reason your state government would urge you to arm yourself in an emergency.

The problem has gotten so bad that state governments are flip-flopping from taking guns…

…to telling you you’d better make sure to have one, because “ain’t nobody gonna help ya!”

I talk about this in-depth in in my best-selling bug out bag manual.

The time to prepare ISN’T when danger is forcing you out your front door…

…or when it’s desperately trying to break in to get at your and your family.

Start arming… and preparing… now, while you can.

It could save your life.

Supply Chain Collapse: How COVID-19 (And Other Pandemics) Threaten Us All

Doomsday Prepper Survival Training For Bugging Out

I saw a news article today about how people are raging because their Amazon orders for luxury goods and tech gadgets aren’t arriving fast enough.

See, the retail giant has prioritized household staples and medical supplies because they’re absolutely overwhelmed with orders… and that means delaying shipments of things they don’t consider as critical.

Not only has the supply chain disruption caused by COVID-19 been a giant wake-up call to just how fragile our society is…

… but it should also be giving you a whole different appreciation of “truckers”!

You see, “collapse” isn’t something that typically happens in one giant THUD that wipes everything out in an instant like a meteor crashing out of the sky, sending us all the way of the dinosaurs.

It’s a chain-reaction that can be caused by any triggering event like the 5 no-b.s. collapse threats I talk about in my free guide, “Survival Gear Secrets”.

(If you want me to send you a free copy of my book, just click here and I’ll send it to you…)

When any of these very real events (like the COVID-19 global pandemic) are triggered, they cause a domino effect that has a very predictable outcome.

In fact, a report developed for “National Truck Driver Appreciation Week” a couple of years ago was a real shocker, and forces us to ask the question…

“Are We Just One Truck Driver Away From A Doomsday Scenario?”

Doomsday Prepper Survival Training For Bugging Out

Ok, first, you need a “trigger event”, right?

Let’s say it’s a pandemic disease outbreak – the kind that the Center For Disease Control (CDC) was telling us we were long overdue for prior to the current COVID-19 disaster.

Diseases can spread very quickly across the country through long-distance transportation such as by people using airplanes, trains…

… and even long-distance truck-drivers delivering goods!

Since truckers often stop in the same locations as other truckers for rest, food, re-fueling, and resupply, all it would take is just a few truck-drivers exposed to a medicine-resistant strain of flu or other virus (you know…), to rapidly spread the disease throughout the entire trucking industry.

Now here’s where things get really scary…

You see, most people don’t realize just how dependent we are on our nation’s truck drivers (although they’re starting to “get it” now).

Our entire trucking system is part of our nation’s critical underlying infrastructure that supplies every single household and business with all the things we take for granted, such as food, water, medicines, fuel, repair parts, etc.

And according to that report I mentioned, here’s what you can expect to see happen without this indispensable lifeline…

Within 24 Hours Of “No Trucking”:

  • Delivery of all medical supplies to affected areas ceases
  • Hospitals will run out of basic supplies
  • Service stations will run out of fuel, skyrocketing prices and creating long lines at the gas pumps
  • Food shortages begin to develop

Within 2-3 Days:

  • Consumer panic over food shortages escalates
  • Supplies of bottled water, powdered milk, and canned meat will disappear
  • ATM’s will run out of cash and banks will close
  • Garbage will pile up in urban and suburban areas
  • Ships and trains will be disrupted from delivery

Within 1 Week:

  • All automobile traffic will cease due to lack of fuel
  • Hospitals will begin to exhaust oxygen supplies

Within 2 Weeks:

  • Clean water supply will begin to run dry (or become contaminated due to non-functional infrastructure)

Within 4 Weeks:

  • The nation’s clean water supply will be completely exhausted.

This is why I’m always saying that “It only takes 3 days to go from calm… to CHAOS!”?

And this is only from a “bad flu” hitting truck drivers – much less COVID-19.

Now, keep in mind… this is all “worst case scenario.”

It isn’t that bad yet – and if we’re lucky, it’s not going to be.

But as hard as it is to hear, this is information we all NEED to know.

There are plenty of other “triggering events” I talk about in my free “Survival Gear Secrets” book I’ll send to you (plus, I tell the warning signs to look out for so you have your own “collapse radar” that gives you prior notice before anyone else even knows what’s about to hit).

This is why we prep, right folks?

This is why YOU need to be the most prepared person on your block in order to protect yourself and those you love from the dangers that your neighbors don’t even realize are out there.

You do.

We’re all going to get through this COVID-19 outbreak, but it’s going to be hard on us.

Learn from these warning signs so that you can spot this type of thing coming in the future.

Make no mistake: It could happen again, and we would be fools not to learn from the current outbreak.

Fool me once,” as they say… right?

Be safe out there.

We’ll continue to bring you important information to keep your family safe during this troubling time.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: 5 Rules

The WHO has released a series of recommendations for the current COVID-19 “Coronavirus” pandemic.

You know me…

…I don’t just blindly accept what governments and the “powers that are” tell me.

These, however, are very sensible.

More importantly, I think having some simple rules they can follow helps give people guidance during a trying time like this one.

So…

Let’s All “Do The Five” During The Pandemic

1. Wash Your Hands

Washing your hands with soap and water (not hand sanitizer) is the most effective way to physically remove germs from your hands.

Frequent hand washing is therefore one of the best ways to help prevent infection.

It’s not a guarantee, but good hygiene is always the front line defense for this type of problem.

2. Cough Into Your Elbow

When I was a kid, they taught us to cough into our hands.

This helps you not to cough on other people… but it covers your hands in germs, and then you spread those to whatever you touch.

Kids today are taught to cough into their elbows, because of course you don’t use your elbow to touch anything (and especially not your “elbow pit”).

Break yourself of the habit of coughing into your hand, and learn to do this instead.

3. Don’t touch your face.

For me, this is the hardest one.

We simply don’t think of how often we touch our faces.

If you have germs on your hands, touching your face and especially rubbing your eyes can help transmit infection INTO YOU.

Learn to focus on this and keep your hands in your pockets if you can’t stop nervously touching things.

4. Stay 1 meter (3 feet/1 yard) from everyone.

This is part of the “social distancing” that everyone is talking about.

The closer you are to strangers, the greater the chance they can transmit infection to you.

Stay at least a meter (1 yard, or 3 feet) away from everyone else in public.

Don’t let them touch you and don’t get any closer than that.

Especially for those in big cities, this will be harder for some than others.

Just treat it as the goal to work toward, and do your best.

5. Stay home if you’re sick.

If you’re not feeling well, chances are good (in terms of probability) that you DON’T have COVID-19.

The thing is, if you go to the hospital at the first sign of mild illness, you run the risk of helping clog up emergency rooms during the pandemic…

…while also exposing yourself to the illness.

If your symptoms are mild, stay home and monitor yourself closely.

Avoid contact with absolutely everyone to the extent that you can.

Understand that you are now a risk — and don’t take it personally when people don’t want to be around you.

If your symptoms start to get worse, THAT is the time to get medical attention.

Do NOT, however, just march into the emergency room exposing everyone else to the potential illness.

Instead, contact your local health provider and get instructions as far as how you should proceed to get assistance with a possible infection.

They’ll be able to tell you the protocol they’re following for suspected cases… so you can minimize contact with others.

That’s it.

That’s 5 simple rules.

Let’s all do our best to follow them as the starting point for coping with pandemic.

‘Coronavirus’ Threat? 15 MILLION people are now INFECTED!

Chinese Coronavirus - Wuhan Flu (Kung Flu)

Jeff Anderson
Jeff Anderson, Editor

The news has been terrifying.

  • Chinese officials claiming bodies should be cremated quickly without funerals, to avoid spreading infection.
  • The World Health Organization declaring a global health emergency.
  • Surgical masks selling out in the UK, because people are terrified the virus has come to their country.
  • And the first cases appearing here in the United States, indicating the coronavirus is spreading here.

But as worrying as all that is, there is another infection, a WORSE infection, that is threatening us right now.

All it takes is for that, PLUS fears of coronavirus, to COLLAPSE our economy – even for just a few weeks…

…and you won’t believe how many people ALREADY have it!

Worried About ‘Coronavirus’. . .? 15 Million People Are ALREADY Infected!

Chinese Coronavirus - Wuhan Flu (Kung Flu)
Chinese Coronavirus – Wuhan Flu (Kung Flu)

See, there’s a ‘coronavirus’ style threat that the news ISN’T talking about.

CNN reported just last week that 15 million people are infected so far this year, and the threat is spreading from state to state.

It’s influenza.

That’s right: While everybody’s worrying about coronavirus (and they should be), the flu is already killing people in the United States.

It just doesn’t rate the news, because people don’t think of “the flu” as the deadly threat it really is.

This season alone, the flu has killed 8,200 people in the United States.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases predicts that this flu season will be the worst one in a decade, and at least 140,000 people have already been hospitalized with flu complications.

That number is only going to go up before this flu season is over!

So, why does that matter?

Because if the flu season gets bad enough – and COMBINED with the threat of coronavirus in the United States – we could experience a supply chain collapse.

And no one is talking about this!

A short-term (or even long-term) “collapse” doesn’t usually happen in one giant THUD that wipes everything out in an instant.

Instead, it goes down as a chain-reaction that can be caused by any triggering event.

(I talk about how to prepare for those triggering events in my life-saving survival “manual” .)

When any of these very real events are triggered, they will cause a domino effect that will have a very predictable outcome.

All you need is a “trigger event” – and, let me tell you, friend, a record flu season, coupled with the coronavirus breaking out in the US, is one HELL of a trigger.

(The Centers For Disease Control – the CDC – has been trying to warn us for years that we’re LONG overdue for a deadly pandemic!)

Diseases can spread very quickly across the country through long-distance transportation such as by people using airplanes, trains…

… and even long-distance truck-drivers delivering goods!

Since truckers often stop in the same locations as other truckers for rest, food, re-fueling, and resupply, all it would take is just a few truck-drivers exposed to the coronavirus (or a medicine-resistant strain of the flu) to rapidly spread these diseases throughout the entire trucking industry.

(In fact, I’m ALREADY hearing rumors about Chinese suppliers of consumer goods halting production “temporarily” while the coronavirus has everyone in China afraid!)

Now here’s where things get really scary…

You see, most people don’t realize just how dependent we are on our nation’s truck drivers.

Our entire trucking system is part of our nation’s critical underlying infrastructure that supplies every single household and business with all the things we take for granted, such as food, water, medicines, fuel, repair parts, etc.

Once things start to collapse, it will take only 3 days to go from calm… to CHAOS.

See, there are LOTS of “triggering events” that can disrupt every town’s supply chain and send our entire infrastructure into a tailspin, turning everyday folks into hungry, desperate “refugees” forced to fend for themselves and their families.

This is why YOU need to be the most prepared person on your block in order to protect yourself and those you love from the dangers that your neighbors don’t even realize are out there – and this workshop will help you do that.

But that knowledge is no good without “action”, right?

Take advantage of my life-saving survival “manual” and let me show you the prepping shortcuts I’ve learned (the hard way) over the years, and prepare NOW, before it’s too late.

I promise this information could save your life (and the lives of those you love).

Don’t wait until the fear of infection shuts down supplies to YOUR town… and the grocery store shelves go empty.

Get prepared now while there’s time.

Bugout Survival: Top 5 Hurricane Stragglers Who Stayed – And DIED!

Bug Out Or Survive In Place? The Price For Failing To Evacuate

Jeff Anderson
Jeff Anderson, Editor

It was being called catastrophic

deadly

… a monster storm unlike anything the U.S. East Coast has ever seen before.

Hurricane Florence was churning on a devastating path straight toward small towns all up and down Virginia and the Carolinas.

Mandatory evacuation orders were given in nearly all of the expected flood zones to get people to seek safe shelter and get out of Dodge.

Yet, as usual, not everyone listens to evacuation orders – and…

Here Are 5 Reasons People Don’t Evacuate – And The Price Paid!

Bug Out Or Survive In Place? The Price For Failing To Evacuate
Bug Out Or Survive In Place? The Price For Failing To Evacuate

It’s not hard to get the “truth” out of stragglers who think they’re smarter than Mother Nature and decide to brave the storm that’s headed their way.

In fact, after several interviews, here are the 5 most common reasons why people don’t evacuate before a storm:

1. “It’s a hassle.”

I know, I know…

Gathering up the extra food… photo albums… packing it all in the family vehicle… jockeying for what looks like the evacuation traffic’s “fast lane” of cars creeping along at 3mph…

Who the hell wants to go through all THAT nonsense, right?
Besides, as Tim Terman (a NC resident) put it:

“Once you leave, it’s hard to get back in to check on damage. My home is all my wife and I have, materially speaking, a lifetime of stuff.”

I get it.

Leaving your “stuff” sucks.

2. “We have a good plan.”

Whether it’s coming from experience with other storms, or just a sense of confidence with their current supplies and options, many people stocked up to ride out the storm.

As one resident in South Carolina put it,

“We’ve got things boarded up. We’ve got a lot of supplies from Walmart, generators, so we’re good to go. We have our kits ready.”

That’s actually a very common approach – even for those WITHOUT any kind of plan.

And then there’s Phase 2 of this so-called “survival plan”…

3. “We’ll just wait. If things get bad enough, we’ll leave.”

A lot of people have weathered storms in the past and didn’t experience heavy damage.

Others came back after evacuating from previous storms only to find that they weren’t hit as hard as expected… but their home had been looted while they were gone.

That would make ANYONE want to think twice about leaving again, wouldn’t it?

As that same S.C. resident continued…

“Of course, we’re keeping an eye on the forecast… so if something changes and we need to go, we’ll get out at the last minute if we have to.”

But then what, right?

These are the same people who typically ALSO fall into the next category…

4. “I don’t know where to go.”

Evacuations are chaotic and confusing by their very nature.

Most people haven’t thought about where they would go if they had to leave their state or even just their local area.

And many towns don’t offer much help…

Emergency officials generally assign letters to evacuation zones for guidance – but most people don’t know what zone they live in and whether evac orders apply to them or not.

Some areas – like Myrtle Beach, SC – don’t have a major highway connecting them to outside areas which makes the evacuation process even slower and more confusing.

And once that decision IS made, nearly every shelter and hotel in a 150 mile radius will be booked solid – leaving very few (if any) options.

But here’s the #1 reason I hear the most…

5. “I’m too old/disabled/set in my ways to leave.”

Many residents simply don’t see leaving their home as an option.

For some, it’s truly NOT an option.

Senior citizens… disabled persons… people who are unable to leave because they’re caring for someone who can’t travel.

And of course there are always a good handful of cranky “Get off my lawn!” types who refuse to let Mother Nature get the best of them, right?

Now, Compare These Reasons To The Death Toll…

So far, about half of the deaths attributed to Hurricane Florence are from residents who are over 60 and stayed behind.

But it’s not just the “older” folks…

A 3-month old and a 7-month old from a separate family are among those whose parents didn’t feel like evacuating with a very young child was an option… and suffered the consequences as wind-blown trees crushed the children inside their home.

Then there are those who thought they had “a good plan” for sticking it out…

Like the couple who prepared for the expected loss of electricity by purchasing a generator… and ran it inside their home until they died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Look, natural disasters are NOT the easiest thing for most people to prepare for.

Most don’t give it any thought at all until it’s already too late.

And then there’s the expense of getting all that gear and supplies together – for some “event” that might never even happen, right?

I hear you.

But preparing for a disaster (or ANY crisis that can affect your local area) does NOT have to be difficult NOR expensive.

I’ve learned several “survival tricks” over the years.

Some are from my days in the military (believe it or not, prepping for a disaster is very similar to prepping for a combat mission!).

And some strategies I learned the hard way as a devastating flood came crashing through my small Texas town in the middle of the night, dragging a dozen of my local townsfolk into our tiny river to their deaths, including two young children as they held tight to their mother.

I swore that day that I was going to do everything I could to show people the REAL way to put together a survival plan – and without them going broke in the process.

That’s why I wrote the “Survival Gear Secrets” Report, and that’s also why I give it away for FREE.

Look, don’t make the same mistake that so many others make and just put things off until “later”.

Procrastinators die.

Hate to be so blunt, but it’s just the damn truth.

Take advantage of my life-saving survival “manual” and let me show you the prepping shortcuts I’ve learned (the hard way) over the years, and prepare NOW, before it’s too late.
