Pandemic Scams: How To Avoid Getting Ripped Off

COVID-19 Pandemic Coronavirus Sales Scams: Avoid Getting Ripped Off

The lockdowns and quarantines of the COVID-19 pandemic have forced many people to get what they need by mail order.

Some of them ordered from Amazon (and are still ordering from Amazon, even after the retail giant started prioritizing “essentials” and delaying deliveries of non-household goods, groceries, and pet supplies by as much as a month).

Others went to outlets like eBay, Etsy, and even Facebook ads in order to buy everything from toilet paper and face masks to “antimicrobial” door-opening and button-pushing widgets.

The problem is, in a lot of cases, people got ripped off by sellers taking advantage of increased demand for online goods (especially goods related to the pandemic).

If you are going to get what you need while avoiding scams and “too-good-to-be-true” bargains, you need to keep a few basic guidelines in mind.

3 Tips For Avoiding Pandemic Sales Scams

COVID-19 Pandemic Coronavirus Sales Scams: Avoid Getting Ripped Off
COVID-19 Pandemic Coronavirus Sales Scams: Avoid Getting Ripped Off

First and foremost, beware of ANY sale for an item that is in high demand, and understand that if somebody is claiming to have goods that nobody else can keep in stock, you need to be extra-careful.

(Right now that includes things like hand sanitizer and certain face masks.)

Whatever is the “hot property” of the moment could become the target of people looking to cash in (by taking your money and not delivering anything).

However, beyond that general point, follow these three rules:

Always Check The Vendor’s Ratings And Sales History (If Possible)

One of my employees bought a ton of stuff on eBay to get around the Amazon restrictions.

He realized too late that one of the sellers he’d bought from had hundreds of negative ratings, because the seller wasn’t bothering to fill orders (and maybe even couldn’t because of lockdowns).

(If he had checked the ratings, he would have known not to spend money with that particular seller.)

If you’re using a site that makes use of ratings (like eBay, Amazon, or Etsy), always check them to make sure they don’t have a high percentage of negative strikes against them.

Don’t just trust a seller you’ve used before, either, because things can change (especially during a global pandemic).

Always look at the most recent information to see if the seller has a good reputation – and when ordering from websites online, do a simple search for their name to make sure you don’t find all kinds of posts complaining about getting ripped off.

Beware Licensed Products And Photoshopped Product Images

Intellectual property is a touchy thing.

You can’t just slap a licensed logo on a product and sell it to other people, because there are licenses involved.

If you see, say, a Facebook ad for a product with a popular television or movie logo/character on it, you should be suspicious of that ad.

Random no-name Facebook sellers can’t usually get licensing rights for stuff like that.

(It would be different if, for example, a Star Wars branded product was being offered by Disney online.)

Also, most of the companies that pull this kind of scam don’t bother to manufacture a physical product at all.

(They use Photoshop to add the image to the product photo, and you can usually tell.)

Don’t buy from an ad using a very obviously photo-manipulated product image, then, unless you have good reason to trust the seller.

Be Very Careful Of Social-Media-Only Advertisers

Finally, be careful when it comes to advertisers who are ONLY selling on social media.

Most legitimate businesses also have a website — and, more importantly, a way to contact customer service.

If the ad you’re looking at doesn’t have any link to an outside website (and no other means of contact), it is very likely a scam.

Now, none of this is to say that ads meeting some of these descriptions are ALWAYS fake.

There are plenty of legitimate businesses out there.

You’re not made of money, though… especially now, with all of us pushed to our limits by the pandemic and the economic strain of the shut-downs.

Don’t risk your money on people you don’t absolutely trust.

There are plenty of other people out there willing to sell you what you need AND give you good customer service.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: 5 Rules

The WHO has released a series of recommendations for the current COVID-19 “Coronavirus” pandemic.

You know me…

…I don’t just blindly accept what governments and the “powers that are” tell me.

These, however, are very sensible.

More importantly, I think having some simple rules they can follow helps give people guidance during a trying time like this one.

So…

Let’s All “Do The Five” During The Pandemic

1. Wash Your Hands

Washing your hands with soap and water (not hand sanitizer) is the most effective way to physically remove germs from your hands.

Frequent hand washing is therefore one of the best ways to help prevent infection.

It’s not a guarantee, but good hygiene is always the front line defense for this type of problem.

2. Cough Into Your Elbow

When I was a kid, they taught us to cough into our hands.

This helps you not to cough on other people… but it covers your hands in germs, and then you spread those to whatever you touch.

Kids today are taught to cough into their elbows, because of course you don’t use your elbow to touch anything (and especially not your “elbow pit”).

Break yourself of the habit of coughing into your hand, and learn to do this instead.

3. Don’t touch your face.

For me, this is the hardest one.

We simply don’t think of how often we touch our faces.

If you have germs on your hands, touching your face and especially rubbing your eyes can help transmit infection INTO YOU.

Learn to focus on this and keep your hands in your pockets if you can’t stop nervously touching things.

4. Stay 1 meter (3 feet/1 yard) from everyone.

This is part of the “social distancing” that everyone is talking about.

The closer you are to strangers, the greater the chance they can transmit infection to you.

Stay at least a meter (1 yard, or 3 feet) away from everyone else in public.

Don’t let them touch you and don’t get any closer than that.

Especially for those in big cities, this will be harder for some than others.

Just treat it as the goal to work toward, and do your best.

5. Stay home if you’re sick.

If you’re not feeling well, chances are good (in terms of probability) that you DON’T have COVID-19.

The thing is, if you go to the hospital at the first sign of mild illness, you run the risk of helping clog up emergency rooms during the pandemic…

…while also exposing yourself to the illness.

If your symptoms are mild, stay home and monitor yourself closely.

Avoid contact with absolutely everyone to the extent that you can.

Understand that you are now a risk — and don’t take it personally when people don’t want to be around you.

If your symptoms start to get worse, THAT is the time to get medical attention.

Do NOT, however, just march into the emergency room exposing everyone else to the potential illness.

Instead, contact your local health provider and get instructions as far as how you should proceed to get assistance with a possible infection.

They’ll be able to tell you the protocol they’re following for suspected cases… so you can minimize contact with others.

That’s it.

That’s 5 simple rules.

Let’s all do our best to follow them as the starting point for coping with pandemic.

Coronavirus Masks: Surgeon General Says STOP Buying These For COVID-19?

Corona Virus Masks - Flu Masks - Pandemic Preparations

Jeff Anderson
Jeff Anderson, Editor

The panic about “coronavirus,” or COVID-19, is starting to reach a fever pitch.

We’ve had our first death(s) here in the United States – starting with someone who didn’t get it from traveling to China.

And just after that report, the official number of infections in the United States JUMPED – because we started counting a bunch of Americans who caught it on a cruise ship.

And the stock market?

Fear of the virus caused us to break a record for a single-day drop, with even more fall-off the next day.

It’s gotten so bad that even the Surgeon General of the United States is urging frightened people to STOP buying masks to prevent themselves from catching the virus.

Now, here is something important:

People who knew what to look for had an early warning about this pandemic scare.

So let me explain – because the reason why isn’t what you might think… and it points to what you should be doing to protect your family.

What You Can Do About A Coronavirus Pandemic While Everybody PANICS…

Corona Virus Masks - Flu Masks - Pandemic Preparations
Corona Virus Masks – Flu Masks – Pandemic Preparations

You might not consider it an early warning sign of pandemic, but a little over a week ago, one of my employees told me he couldn’t find dust masks.

He does a lot of projects involving grinding and sanding, and a couple weeks ago he went to the hardware store to buy some.

They were completely sold out!

But he didn’t get really worried – or bring it up to me – until he tried to buy some online, only to discover the few sellers who had any left had jacked up their prices!

The shortage is all because people are buying up masks, looking for something, anything, that can protect them when they’re out in public!

And THAT is why the surgeon general is telling the public to stop buying them.

People are buying up so many masks that now, there aren’t any masks left to price-gouge.

They’re just gone – meaning medical professionals and first responders can’t get their hands on them!

Here’s a picture that same employee of mine took just this past weekend:

Empty Hardware Store Shelf
Empty Hardware Store Shelf

That’s the dust mask section of a national chain hardware store, where you can buy simple masks for painting and sanding.

Unlike fine-particle filter masks, those simple hardware store dust masks can’t do ANYTHING to prevent you from getting coronavirus.

That means that now, contractors – and you and I – can’t get dust masks for simple projects around the house…

…all because people are panicking.

Now… think about all of the products you take for granted on a daily basis.

Not just dust masks, but basic household goods.

In Hawaii, a state that depends on imports – on a supply chain for consumer goods – panicking citizens are buying out the toilet paper and bottled water for the same reason they’ve been buying hardware store dust masks.

And it’s only a matter of time before that panic affects YOUR local store – and hits more than just painter’s masks.

This is, in other words, the first step in the chain reaction – all of it caused by PEOPLE, not the pandemic itself.

A short-term (or even long-term) “collapse” doesn’t usually happen in one giant THUD that wipes everything out in an instant.

Instead, it goes down as a chain-reaction that can be caused by any triggering event.

(I talk about how to prepare for those triggering events in my life-saving survival “manual” .)

When any of these very real events are triggered, they will cause a domino effect that will have a very predictable outcome.

All you need is for something like a pandemic scare to trigger the reaction:

First, people get worried about getting sick, so they buy out the stores of hand sanitizer and dust masks.

Then, they get worried about household goods, so they start buying toilet paper and bottled water.

Then the stock market crashes, like we’ve ALREADY seen, and people make a run on the banks to take out their money.

Then, stores start closing, either because there’s no merchandise to sell, or because the government told them they have to close during the panic (like has already happened in China).

And without the flow of cheap goods from China to our trucking fleets and then to our store shelves, well, things start to spiral out of control… FAST.

You see, most people don’t realize just how dependent we are on our nation’s truck drivers – and on the supply chain they distribute from manufacturers in China.

That system is critical to our economic infrastructure, and it supplies every single household and business with all the things we take for granted, such as food, water, medicines, fuel, repair parts, etc.

But if those truck drivers have nothing to deliver – or they start getting sick, and spreading sickness themselves – the whole system breaks down!

Once things start to collapse, it will take only days for our country to turn into a nightmare… and it all started with sold-out pollution masks.

So… now you know what a collapse, prompted by a pandemic panic, can look like.

But that knowledge is no good without “action”, right?

Take advantage of my life-saving survival “manual” and let me show you the prepping shortcuts I’ve learned (the hard way) over the years, and prepare NOW, before it’s too late.

I promise this information could save your life (and the lives of those you love).

Don’t wait until the coronavirus panic leaves you without the supplies you need… and with you local grocery store shelves empty.

Get prepared now while there’s time.

‘Coronavirus’ Threat? 15 MILLION people are now INFECTED!

Chinese Coronavirus - Wuhan Flu (Kung Flu)

Jeff Anderson
Jeff Anderson, Editor

The news has been terrifying.

  • Chinese officials claiming bodies should be cremated quickly without funerals, to avoid spreading infection.
  • The World Health Organization declaring a global health emergency.
  • Surgical masks selling out in the UK, because people are terrified the virus has come to their country.
  • And the first cases appearing here in the United States, indicating the coronavirus is spreading here.

But as worrying as all that is, there is another infection, a WORSE infection, that is threatening us right now.

All it takes is for that, PLUS fears of coronavirus, to COLLAPSE our economy – even for just a few weeks…

…and you won’t believe how many people ALREADY have it!

Worried About ‘Coronavirus’. . .? 15 Million People Are ALREADY Infected!

Chinese Coronavirus - Wuhan Flu (Kung Flu)
Chinese Coronavirus – Wuhan Flu (Kung Flu)

See, there’s a ‘coronavirus’ style threat that the news ISN’T talking about.

CNN reported just last week that 15 million people are infected so far this year, and the threat is spreading from state to state.

It’s influenza.

That’s right: While everybody’s worrying about coronavirus (and they should be), the flu is already killing people in the United States.

It just doesn’t rate the news, because people don’t think of “the flu” as the deadly threat it really is.

This season alone, the flu has killed 8,200 people in the United States.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases predicts that this flu season will be the worst one in a decade, and at least 140,000 people have already been hospitalized with flu complications.

That number is only going to go up before this flu season is over!

So, why does that matter?

Because if the flu season gets bad enough – and COMBINED with the threat of coronavirus in the United States – we could experience a supply chain collapse.

And no one is talking about this!

All you need is a “trigger event” – and, let me tell you, friend, a record flu season, coupled with the coronavirus breaking out in the US, is one HELL of a trigger.

(The Centers For Disease Control – the CDC – has been trying to warn us for years that we’re LONG overdue for a deadly pandemic!)

Diseases can spread very quickly across the country through long-distance transportation such as by people using airplanes, trains…

… and even long-distance truck-drivers delivering goods!

Since truckers often stop in the same locations as other truckers for rest, food, re-fueling, and resupply, all it would take is just a few truck-drivers exposed to the coronavirus (or a medicine-resistant strain of the flu) to rapidly spread these diseases throughout the entire trucking industry.

(In fact, I’m ALREADY hearing rumors about Chinese suppliers of consumer goods halting production “temporarily” while the coronavirus has everyone in China afraid!)

Now here’s where things get really scary…

You see, most people don’t realize just how dependent we are on our nation’s truck drivers.

Our entire trucking system is part of our nation’s critical underlying infrastructure that supplies every single household and business with all the things we take for granted, such as food, water, medicines, fuel, repair parts, etc.

Once things start to collapse, it will take only 3 days to go from calm… to CHAOS.

See, there are LOTS of “triggering events” that can disrupt every town’s supply chain and send our entire infrastructure into a tailspin, turning everyday folks into hungry, desperate “refugees” forced to fend for themselves and their families.

This is why YOU need to be the most prepared person on your block in order to protect yourself and those you love from the dangers that your neighbors don’t even realize are out there – and this workshop will help you do that.

But that knowledge is no good without “action”, right?

Take advantage of my life-saving survival “manual” and let me show you the prepping shortcuts I’ve learned (the hard way) over the years, and prepare NOW, before it’s too late.

I promise this information could save your life (and the lives of those you love).

Don’t wait until the fear of infection shuts down supplies to YOUR town… and the grocery store shelves go empty.

Get prepared now while there’s time.
