The floor rushed up to meet Clarence Daniels with a rib-grating crunch.

One minute, the 62-year-old man was walking into a Wal-Mart to buy coffee creamer.

The next, he was being tackled to the ground by a man 20 years younger!

As Clarence struggled with the maniac who was putting him in a choke hold, he had a deadly decision before him:

Should he pull his gun and shoot his attacker off him?

He didn't deserve to have to make a life-or-death decision just shopping at Wal-Mart, but Clarence was a victim of a disturbing new trend:

Clarence Daniels had a coffee creamer label in his pocket when he was attacked in a Brandon, Florida Wal-Mart.

That's all he was looking for.

The problem is, another guy – Michael Foster, 43 – saw Clarence get out of his car and walk through the parking lot.

After assaulting Clarence and screaming, “He's got a gun! He's got a gun!” Foster struggled with his victim until the police finally separated them.

(Clarence, meanwhile, shouted, “I have a permit!”)

I have to tell you, this CCW holder showed a LOT of good judgment in not shooting Foster.

He kept his head, and as a result, it was Michael Foster who was arrested and charged with battery.

See, Foster stalked Clarence through the parking lot, waited for him to enter the Wal-Mart, and then physically attacked him – because he thought he was stopping a mass shooting.


Because when Clarence Daniels got out of his car, he took the handgun he kept in the vehicle and tucked it behind his hip, under his coat.

A LOT of gun owners do the same thing.

A lot of us grew up during a time when people owning guns, carrying guns, keeping guns in their cars – even in racks in the back windows of pickup trucks – was a perfectly normal part of life.

The problem is, more and more people today don't think or feel that way.

They've grown up being told by popular entertainment that owning a gun is a bad thing that makes you a bad guy…

…and many of them don't even realize that private citizens can carry guns concealed in most of the United States.

Because of that – and because of news coverage that has Americans convinced they're all a heartbeat away from a mass murder or “active shooter” situation – when a lot of people see a gun, they think they've GOT to act.

Now, I'm not trying to blame Clarence Daniels too much.

Michael Foster was the one in the wrong, and Foster was sentenced to a year's probation for his crime.

(He was also told he could have no contact with his victim, that he couldn't own guns, and that he had to attend anger management classes.)

Fact is, though, if Clarence had kept his roscoe out of sight, none of this would have happened.

When you and I carry concealed, we NEVER want our guns to be visible to anyone watching.

For one thing, seeing a gun scares people like Michael Foster, who don't realize there are some of us out here legally carrying.

For another, if a real criminal sees your gun, he now knows exactly what he has to do to stop you from drawing it.

Your gun might even make you a target, because there's nothing criminals like more than stealing guns from other people.

The Legal Issue Of Concealed Carry

Keeping your gun concealed means more than just not taking it out of your car in public, like Clarence Daniels did.

It also means carrying your gun in a way that it won't”out” you when you least expect it.

Too many armed citizens are walking around with holsters they think, WRONGLY, are “good enough”…

…and these el cheap-o specials are the kinds of things that print or “out” the gun when you least expect it!

All it takes is one moment where your gun is visible, and one of these vigilante “heroes” like Michael Foster will be on top of you.

You can't afford that kind of attention, and that means you need a CCW holster that will help you keep your gun out of sight AT ALL TIMES.

More importantly, though, it may even be a legal requirement where you are that you keep your gun out of sight.

Remember what happened to Clarence Daniels.

Kelly Herron was standing in a public bathroom off a Seattle running trail when she realized she was in danger.

“As I was drying my hands, I became aware that something was wrong,” she told the news.

That's when Gary Steiner, a 40-year-old registered sex offender, attacked this 36-year-old marathon runner.

Steiner had been hiding in a bathroom stall in the ladies' room, just waiting for a victim!

He immediately took her to the floor of the bathroom, wailing away on her with his fists.

Kelly fought like a woman possessed.

At one point, she crawled into a bathroom stall, on her back, and tried to kick the door shut with her foot.

Steiner climbed under the stall door from the next one and began beating her in the face.

Kelly started to feel like she was going to black out.

That was bad, because as soon as she was subdued, Steiner intended to rape her.

That's when Kelly had what she later described as a “moment of clarity.”

She thought to herself,

“This doesn't have to be a FAIR fight!”

So she started to claw his face.

Fighting her way clear like a demon, Kelly punched him again and again, telling herself never to give up.

Finally, she managed to escape the bathroom.

A passerby, who had a carabiner keychain, used it to lock Steiner in the bathroom until the cops could arrest him.

And just like that, this lone woman had not only defeated a street ambush… but she had managed to get her scumbag attacker CAUGHT!

Better yet, Kelly Herron's story beautifully illustrates three tips you can use to avoid (or fight off) a street ambush:

1. Search Your Surroundings For Ambushers

Kelly's “sixth sense” told her something was wrong when she was standing in the bathroom.

The problem with that kind of intuition is that it's usually too little, too late!

What she should have done was check the bathroom when she first entered, to see if she was alone.

A quick glance under the stalls would probably have shown her Steiner's pants and shoes, which would have looked out of place in a ladies' room.

You should get in the habit of checking your surroundings wherever you are, including when you get into your own car (to make sure nobody's hiding in the back seat).

2. If You're Attacked, Fight Like A Rabid Animal

This is the thing Kelly did “most right.”

She fought, and fought, and fought.

In describing the fight on her Instagram account and in interviews after the assault, she spoke several times about the mindset she had.

She refused to give up, refused to let Steiner have his way with her, and refused to become a victim.

When it was over, she posted the picture you see here of her stitched, scarred face.

She wasn't looking for sympathy.

She wanted people to know that you CAN fight back against an attacker… and that mindset of survival and determination is what saved her from rape (and worse).

3. If You Go “Out” Or They Take You Somewhere Else, It's Over

Kelly understood this, and it's why she got the “burst of adrenaline” to finally fight back and escape Steiner's grip.

She knew — and spoke about the fact — that if she blacked out, she was going to be raped (and maybe dead).

That very real fear is what gave her the power to keep on fighting past her limits.

And that, honestly, makes her one hell of a woman.

She's somebody we can all learn from when it comes to fighting back against an attack.

I just want you, and your family, to be safe.

I don't know if you saw the remake of Death Wish with Bruce Willis, but it came out quite a while ago.

(Spoiler alert, if you're still catching up on the biggest hits of 2018 on VHS.)

Near the end of the movie, Bruce grabs a fully automatic AR pistol from a hidden drawer in a piece of furniture.

Now, we all know that's total BS – because there's no way he was going to have a legal machine gun for home defense – right?

I mean, I guess somewhere out there is a guy who's managed to pull off that paperwork, but I don't know anybody who has… and I live part time in Texas.

But, to be honest, that WASN'T my biggest problem with that part of the film!

What I really hated was the gimmicky coffee table with the rifle “hidden” in it.

Let me explain why…

Hiding a gun in a piece of furniture is one of those things that seems like a good idea in the movies… but has some problems in real life.

We all know we live in a dangerous world, and we're all aware that home invasion is a real danger.

Being able to get to a gun – especially one the “bad guy” doesn't know about – is a good thing.

But when it comes to hiding firearms, there's stuff like Bruce Willis' coffee table in the movies, and then there's real life.

If you buy a piece of furniture like a coffee table or an end table to hide a gun in, I can almost GUARANTEE that it has these problems:

It's gimmicky, so it's probably not made all that well – meaning it's fragile compared to “real” furniture.

It's not secure, so if you have curious kids in the home, stashing a gun in one of these is no better that hiding it under the couch cushions.

It may be an awkward place to get to a gun – but you're limited to where that piece of furniture looks like it belongs, so there are only so many places you can put it.

But it's not just Bruce and his coffee table that I consider a problem, because three of the other popular gun-hiding options all have hidden issues:

1. Gun Hidden In A Picture Frame

The big problem with these is that they're very obvious.

(Maybe when they were first introduced, people weren't looking for them, but I see them in ads all the time now.)

If a burglar breaks into your house looking for things he can steal, guns will be high on the list.

And trust me, he's gonna notice that suspiciously HUGE picture frame bolted to the wall.

2. Gun In A Clock (Or Some Other Object)

There are all kinds of small objects that can be hollowed out to make spaces just big enough for a gun.

These are better than pieces of furniture, because you have more options for where to put them.

They're still not secure, though, so you've basically just left a gun lying around for anybody to find (unless you add a trigger lock).

If you go with this option, make sure it blends in well.

It's also not a good idea to use these when you've got kids in the house.

(Trust me, they can find anything, and they'll find ways to break things you can't even imagine.)

3. Gun In A Hollow Book

Hiding something in a hollow book always makes me feel like a super-spy.

These are better for hiding, because if you have a lot of books, finding your gun is like finding a old gun-shaped needle in a books-shaped haystack.

The problem with these, though, is that they're hard to get to under stress.

When a guy is coming at you with a knife from across your living room, he's not going to wait while you thumb through your books, you know?

A Better Option For Hiding Your Guns (AND KNIVES)

A better option for hiding your guns, or ANY metal weapon (like a knife) is a gun magnet.

These are powerful magnets that let you stick your gun ANYWHERE (including where your kids can't get to them).

That means you can put them any place that your gun is most easily accessible, yet still hidden.

Plus, since you're basically creating a custom hiding spot based on where you install the magnet, a burglar won't have any way of knowing what your hiding spot looks like.

(Unlike if you buy a commercial gun-hiding device, because bad guys can look through catalogs and websites too!)

If you want to hide a gun in your home for a home invasion, then, you're best bet is to pick the hiding spot FIRST, then install the magnet to hold the weapon.

Not only that, but gun magnets are very affordable compared to gun-hiding furniture, and they even work for knives (here's one that one of my employees keeps under his kitchen table):

The #1 Street Fighting Mistake People Make

This isn't something I'm happy talking about, but it's a horrible reality of the world we now live in.

The elections are coming up, and everybody's talking about politics.

That means that no matter who you are, no matter what you are doing, and even if you're in your own home, you may have to fight to protect yourself.

There is no shortage of footage of people doing just that in today's violent climate.

But do you know what mistake almost ALL of them are making?

They have no idea what they're doing!

Even law enforcement officers, forced to go hand-to-hand with protesters and rioters – people who are supposed to be trained – are making it up as they go.

You watch the footage of people fighting with the cops, fighting with civilians, fighting with each other

…and you can see they're flailing around wildly, unsure of how to handle multiple opponents (very common, in this day of flash mobs and riots), totally unprepared for dealing with the “melee weapons” street fighters are bringing out to play.

(These include shields, frozen bottles, “locks in socks,” KNIVES, and a bunch of other makeshift and purpose-built weapons.)

Now, I know a lot of people are arming themselves to deal with these threats… but you can't always have a gun with you.

A lot of people carrying knives and other weapons aren't sure how to use them, either.

Instead, you're supposed to shout “Fire! Fire!” because people who don't want to get involved in a crime will come running if that's what it takes to save their own skins.

(Pretty sad that we have to think like this, you know?)

Well, the scream whistle gets attention like nothing else… so even if you're NOT being attacked, if you want to draw a crowd of people fast (as in, a crowd of witnesses), blowing on a scream whistle will do that.

The noise doesn't just scare away the bad people, in other words; it also attracts crowds of OTHER people, which might be just what you need.

3. It Can Help You Get Rescued In An Accident

If you were in an accident – say, your car was in a ditch over an embankment, and you couldn't get out on your own – you'd need to call for help.

But if you were hurt, you might not be able to shout very loud.

And if you were lost in the woods, trying to get somebody's attention so they could come find you, shouting would only work for so long before your voice was blown out.

In a survival situation, a scream whistle can bring rescuers to you FAST.

It doesn't take much air to create one HECK of a racket with these, either.

All you have to do is keep blowing on it to make so much noise that anyone nearby will hear you.

That means that this whistle can save your life even if you're all alone.

Of course, like I said, the best thing about these powerful screamers is that they're very inexpensive.

You can afford to buy several for all your loved ones, your survival kits, your pocket, your car… wherever you might want a little insurance.

You'll forget they're there until you need them… and if you ever do, you'll be really grateful to have them.

Anyone engaged in a high-risk job or activity, anyone who does competitive sports, and anyone who simply needs to be focused for heavy physical or mental activity throughout the day, can benefit from what we've referred to on this blog before as warrior meditation.

This is a means of calming your emotions and clearing your mind so that you are better focused and more alert.

This foundational meditation readies you for each day, setting you up for the most success you can create, regardless of the particular battlefield, literal or metaphorical, where this day will take place.

But meditation can also be used to program your brain for success, improving your daily training outcomes… as well as your outcomes in life in general.

Not long ago I spoke again to famed martial arts expert Loren Christensen about “using the force” this way.

Here is what he had to tell me about using meditation to program your warrior's brain for success.

Remember that the primary function of meditation is to help you achieve both a calm, peaceful mind as well as a profoundly relaxed body.

Once you achieve this, you will find that it feels wonderful.

It’s just an amazing sensation.

That’s an important standalone benefit and purpose of warrior meditation.

The positive physical sensation it produces helps encourage you while making you better able to handle your day and its challenges.

Your daily meditation can range from a minute to five minutes to thirty minutes, which means it doesn’t even have to take up much of your time.

Warrior Meditation Benefits

One of the side benefits of warrior meditation is this:

When your mind is deeply calm, you are highly susceptible to positive commands you give yourself, such as how to go about your day safely and with alert focus.

Too often we think negatively about our skills, allowing our fears and our doubts to destroy our focus and confidence.

These negative thoughts can therefore harm us when we must rely most strongly on our training, our instincts, and our reflexes, such as during battle or other dangerous situations.

Practicing Warrior Meditation

You can conduct a simple warrior meditation session almost anywhere and any time.

You first make yourself relaxed so you are susceptible to positive commands.

Calm your mind.

Use four-count tactical breathing if you want, or any other breathing and relaxation method you might know.

Then give yourself commends that fit your needs, whether those needs are safety on the street, focus and resolve on the battlefield, the will to push yourself during a competition, or whatever else.

To survive, to succeed, you must be positively focused.

Some positive commands include…

  • I am aware of my surroundings, all 360 degrees.
  • I will always give new surroundings a quick tactical examination.
  • I’ll be aware of potential trouble spots.
  • I’ll be aware of everyone around me.
  • I will be cognizant of anyone who makes me feel uncomfortable.
  • I am confident in my verbal skills and my physical skills.
  • I am skilled with weapons.
  • I am skilled in empty hand techniques.
  • I am calm in chaotic situation.
  • I will fight all out when necessary, and I will keep fighting as though I’m in them.

By using these methods and these positive commands, you can immediately create better and more positive focus and awareness.

This, in turn, will help you to stay on task and goal-oriented no matter what adversity you face.

This means that warrior meditation can benefit you now and in the future, no matter when and where you need it.

Warrior Meditation Is For Everyone!

Remember: Meditation can help anyone in a high-risk job or activity, anyone in competition, and anyone who needs to focus on heavy physical or mental activity.

The primary function of meditation is to help you achieve a calm, peaceful mind and a profoundly relaxed body.

Meditating also leaves you highly susceptible to giving yourself commands.

Obviously, when you are facing multiple attackers, you have to choose someone to hit.

You can't hit them all at the same time.

So who's it going to be?

Some instructors recommend attacking the “leader” of a group.

Some say to attack the loudest guy, who is probably the biggest bully.

Some say to attack the one who is armed.

While it varies from situation to situation, there actually isn't a single right answer.

Here are three tips for facing multiple attackers.

1. Choose Your First Strike

If one attacker does seem dominant, it MIGHT be helpful to strike that person first.

Taking out the perceived leader of a group of thugs might take the spirit out of the others.

They might be taking their cues from the worst of them, and when he goes down, their resolve falters.

Then again, you might do just the opposite.

If one of the attackers seems quite weak, you might choose to hit him first in order to break through and escape.

It won't necessarily cause the other attackers to pause if you take down the weakest one of them, but if it gives you the escape route you need to run through their ranks, then it doesn't matter.

Whoever you do hit first, do so with maximum aggression.

Your life is on the line and you can't afford to waste any time.

2. Know HOW To Hit

If you did hit someone in a multiple attackers scenario, are you confident they would go down?

Hitting someone ineffectively in that situation might make it that much WORSE for you.

If you just make them angry but don't take them out, you're in for a good stomping-to-death.

You absolutely need to know how to hit hard enough to knock someone out.

Knocking someone out puts them out of the fight as quickly as possible, allowing you to deal with the other threats.

It's possible to do this with an open palm, which prevents you from breaking your knuckles.

Use fakes and checks, drawing attention or pushing the attacker in one direction, then hitting from another.

It's all about learning to move in and around multiple attackers quickly.

3. Stay Mobile!

To do that moving around, though, you can't afford to get rooted to one spot.

It's the simplest thing in the world to say, but you MUST stay mobile.

Don't stand in one spot!

Moving targets are better able to avoid attacks while seeking a better position from which to flee.

Keep moving so you're a harder target to hit… and when you find your opening, make a break to escape.

Remember… failure means getting stomped to death!

Don't let it happen to you.

The time to train for a multiple attacker scenario is now, before you face such a threat.

Forget “self-defense“!

“Offense” is what wins fights… plain and simple!

If you're focused on simply “defending,” then you're just prolonging the inevitable unless you can take over the offense and inflict that first real injury on your attacker.

In other words, until you launch a strike that causes a traumatic, uncontrollable response in your assailant, you're not truly “fighting to survive”.

The biggest mistake people make when it comes to defeating an attacker in a real street fight is that…

“Injury is the alpha and omega of violence; it’s where it starts and ends.”

Consider for a moment that you're breaking some gangbanger's nose after he got up in your face to threaten you…

His body's physical reaction is something he can't control.

His head instantly explodes with blinding light — his vision, breathing, movement, and even his thinking are all suddenly destroyed.

Your blow forces his body to contort against his will, and where he was once strong…

your attacker is now crippled and confused!

In the end it doesn’t matter what broke his nose:  a fist… a boot… the heel of a hand…or the edge of a doorframe.

All that matters is that his power and dreams of turning you into lunchmeat are shattered as you've rendered him blind and vulnerable.

It's now a simple thing to “injure” him again.

(And again!)

So how do you train for that outcome?

1. Always Work Toward Accuracy First

Most people you see in real street fights are swinging blindly at their attacker.

A wild strike to the head is not the same as a targeted strike to the nose.

Just as if you train with a handgun to get a one-shot stop instead of unloading an entire clip of “spray and pray” bullets, you want to focus your training on striking your target with extreme accuracy.

The more you train to strike accurately, the more accurate you'll be when it matters.

2: Focus On The Body's Most Vulnerable “Destruction Points”

The key to the scenario I just unfolded is in “where” you struck this gangbanger to cause an uncontrollable reaction.

There are several of these debilitating “destruction points” all over the body and they don't even require you to hit hard to take out a much bigger and stronger attacker.

Learning the vulnerable points of the human body, such as from Target Focus Training's videos, will make it possible for you to do this.

You need to start every attack with debilitating injury –– not with moves, techniques, stances or theory.

Violence begins and ends with ruined anatomy.

Any training that does not start there is useless for survival.

Ok, before I go into the 3 ways to respond to a bully, here's what you must understand about them:

They're psychologically “weak”.

It's actually their own insecurity that makes them want to abuse other people so they can feel better about themselves.

This helps them to feel in control.

But while most bullies ARE cowards deep down, that doesn't mean they aren't VERY dangerous… and there's ALWAYS the possibility of physical violence!

So, when you're confronted by a potentially VIOLENT bully, you basically have 3 options for how you respond:

1. Anger And Aggression

It's only natural to get angry when someone tries to push you around, right?

You want to get right back in their face… insult them back… make them feel the way they made YOU feel.

You want “payback”.

While that thought may feel empowering, the reality is that insulting a bully or making him “lose face” in front of his friends just makes him feel pressured to take his attack to the next level.

In other words, it could push things into a physical confrontation.


2. Fear And Passivity

This next response is something I blame on our schools and today's society…

Too much of the “anti-bullying” literature out there, including what they teach our kids in schools, is basically just rolling over for bullies.

The idea is that, if you give in to the bully and don't stand up for yourself, you at least won't be guilty of making things worse.

That's why school “zero tolerance” programs are such a bad idea.

They punish BOTH the kid who started a fight AND the kid who got picked on.

That attitude carries over into adult life too…

But showing fear or passivity to a bully is basically like blood in the water to a shark…

It gets the bully “high” on how much fun it is to push you around, because most bullies are cowards who like helpless victims.

Fear and passivity just makes everything worse for you. . . and because bullies love a guaranteed “win,” it also increases the chance they'll make things physical because they know there's no risk to them!

If you look like “lunch”… you WILL get eaten!

(I have a video I'll show you in a few seconds that demonstrates PERFECTLY why this is a dangerously bad idea!)

3. Confidence And Assertiveness

The only response to a bully that actually WORKS is assertiveness.

This is, in a way, a reflection of your own self-image.

If you have a strong self-image, if you are very confident, then you'll be able to stand up for yourself without feeling the need to be insulting to your aggressor.

You'll be able to look him in the eye, show now fear, and make it clear that, while you're not looking to challenge him, you're also not his “bitch.”

The next time some thug twice your size snarls, “What the f**k are you looking at?!” you won't try to make a joke…

You won't hit back with an insult…

You won't escalate the situation…

You'll simply be calm, assertive, and in control – defusing the situation so that you don't HAVE to fight.

But here's the critical key to making this work…

You can't “project” confidence if you're not 100% sure that – if you had to – you could handle a much larger attacker if he decides to attack anyway.

You can't fake it.

If he decides he's not going to back down like most cowardly bullies…

…you MUST be able to take him down!

Unfortunately, most people don't possess the self-defense skills that TRULY work against even someone who is bigger and stronger than you (as most bullies are).

When they're eyeball-to-chest with a bully twice their size and strength, you can literally SEE their self-confidence getting eaten away.

For example, watch the guy in this video as he's bullied by a bigger attacker…

I use this example in my “Defeat Larger Attackers” DVD because it's one of the best examples I've ever seen for the WRONG way to deal with a bully…

When you watch the video, think about how to NOT be “that guy”.

  • How would YOU have de-escalated the fight?
  • What mistakes did the “victim” make BEFORE he was attacked?
  • And how would YOU have responded when you realized that there was no backing out?

4 Tactical Tips To Survive A Home Invasion!

Imagine this scenario: You're sitting at home watching reruns of ‘The Simpsons' and there's a knock at your front door.

“Who's there?” you say. Hello, my daughter is selling Girl Scout cookies to raise money for military veterans and we'd like to show you her selection.”

Being the real patriot you are, you're tempted to open the door to “do your part” – but are smart enough to look first and notice two tough-looking thugs with guns… and no little girl in a uniform.

You’re about to be the victim of a home invasion. So what do you do? Reach for your .45? Your shotgun? Claymore mine?

As a tried and true gun owner, your first instinct may be to start blasting away, but a home invasion requires tactical thinking BEYOND just the “point and shoot” reaction many gun owners have instilled in themselves from typical range training…

Here Are Four Tips To Survive A Home Invasion

  1. You need a “code word” for your family so that they all know how to spring into action, even if they're in separate rooms from each other. Forget the Spec Ops secret code – “ESCAPE” works much better than “RED WOLF”. 

Simple…to the point.
  2. Have a “safe room” set up in your house where everyone can retreat to at the same time.
It needs to be stocked with several items to be prepared for surviving the upcoming fight, including a phone you can use to call law enforcement.
  3. DON'T leave your safe room!
 Assuming you have those you love with you, don't be one of the idiots who puts on his cape and decides to go take the fight to the guys invading your home.
  4. Create a “fatal funnel”. Hunker down in a corner to the opposite side of the opening of the door so you have maximum time to make a shooting decision and are the last thing the home invaders see when busting in.
You have the advantage in this case because they have to assess the room before making a move (is anyone in the room; where are they; recover; reorganize; act)
. You just have to decide whether to shoot or not and you already know that either it's a bad guy coming for you or the police coming to rescue you (hint: don't shoot the police)
. Stay in place until the police arrive, even if you think the threat is gone.

Look, home invasions don't just happen in high-crime neighborhoods.

They happen EVERYWHERE (even in rural areas where home invaders know that there's no one around to hear your screams).
OWNING a gun isn't the same as knowing what to do with it tactically should you ever be faced with such a violent invasion of your castle.

And I'm not just talking about “point shooting” or getting a 1″ shot group between the eyes – I'm talking about all the other sneaky tricks that support your firing skills and are even MORE important.
